Google updates Page Rank every 3-4 months but the actual date is never really known. During the period when these happens, there are many website owners, including myself that are worried whether their website’s Google Page Rank will go up or down or does not rise. On the other hand, some SEO experts deem Page Rank as useless while others agree that it gives a general overview of a site’s standing in Google.
Page Rank starts from 0 to 10. New websites starts with a Page Rank 0, which indicates that the web page has been added to the Google database, but it does not yet have any Page Rank assigned to it. The higher the Page Rank means the better the rankings for your site and keywords. This will translate to more traffic and increased sales in some cases.
The Page Rank of a website is determined largely by the popularity of the site based on the Page Rank of the sites linking back to it. Therefore, it is important to obtain quality backlinks to increase the PageRank of your site.
Put simply, backlinks are links that point back to your site. They are the result of link exchange or received from other sites, links placed within blog posts, links in comments and links used as signatures in forums. If the forums and blogs have high page ranks, you will have a quality link that will serve to increase your page rank as well as your traffic.
One important point to note is building quality backlinks takes time and does not happen overnight. Generally, the required task is to seek out links from sites that have higher PR with related content, include links and related keywords in your signatures in forums and blog posts and let these links build naturally over time.
