Why My Freelancing Was Cut Short
I posted about my termination of contract as an editor of Armani Blog earlier on and promised you guys that I would discuss about this issue here. It was my first attempt at freelancing and I was thrilled with the offer from this particular publisher after writing a sponsored post for his company.
I had done a couple of website reviews for him and was paid each time. However, this contract actually paid on a monthly basis but I negotiated for a fortnightly payment. Perhaps it was an instinct that I had as the offer appeared too good to be true.
I received payment without any problem for a month’s work. Thereafter, two weeks later, the payment was partially paid and he informed me that he will pay towards the end of the month as he was waiting for some money. That rang a little alarm bell in me but I continued to work for him. There was an eCheck payment during the end of the 2nd month. However, it did not go through and was cancelled.
(Edited here because late this afternoon, I have received partial payment for the final amount and am still waiting for the balance.)
It was only after several unhappy emails that he finally responded. We have both agreed to terminate the contract and I am still waiting for his final payment. For the time being, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt he will pay.
Long story and a lesson learned but it will not dampen my spirit to venture into freelance writing. Chris from Chrisblogging is one freelance writer who has inspired me to continue on…
