Blogging’s Technical Jargons

When I first started blogging, I was so blur about technical jargons that I did not even know what “url” was!!! I guess blogging was my first personal involvement with the internet and I was like a kid learning the ABCs.

Here’s a list of abbreviations and jargons that is constantly being used in blogosphere and some simple explanations:

1. URL - Uniform Resource Locator. It is the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use, and the second part specifies the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located.

2. HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language. A HTML file is a text file containing small markup tags. The markup tags tell the Web browser how to display the page. HTML file can be created using a simple text editor and must have an htm or html file extension.

3. Domain Name - Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages.

ARE YOU LOST OR IN LA LA LAND ALREADY??? LOL….I shall continue…

4. Feeds - A Web document that is a shortened version of a Web page that has been created for syndication. Feeds usually end in .xml or .rss

5. Browser - Short for Web browser, a software application used to locate and display Web pages. There are many browsers around like Internet Explorer (which I am using), Mozilla Firefox, Netscape Navigator, Yahoo, etc.

6. IP Address - IP stands for Internet Protocol. Every machine on the Internet has a unique identifying number, called an IP Address. A typical IP address looks like this: 216.27.61.137

Ok, that’s it! The very basic tutorial for dummies to get you started.

Hi Barbi - Thanks for visiting. Acknowledged your comment about this post but afterall, my blog was created for bloggers who started out knowing nuts about blogging. I must say there are a lot of bloggers who write fluently about SEO and stuff but many people like me would prefer to read it in layman’s term.

Thanks for the offer. I’m assuming you’ll be providing your service FOC to me? Ha ha..I’ll look you up soon :)
