Direction After PR Dropped

It is now clearly apparent that many sites got penalized by Google due to the fact that text links were sold on their sites as Problogger had posted on his blog recently. There are many bloggers who were initially adamant that they would not bow to Google’s demand but are now crying their hearts out. As for me, I have always emphasized the fact that having a high Page Rank is akin to having a celebrity status for your blog. Thus, like it or not, I still believe that PR dictates the amount of money one can earn from one’s blog or site.

As my own blog’s PR had dropped two notch, I need to re-evaluate the direction of my money making venture. I actually hit a four figure income this month as of today and the good news is PPP only generated about 20% of the total figure. The rest are made of other paid post networks, text link income, content writing and direct advertising. I am quite happy with my direct advertising income which makes up 30% of the figure for the month. It’s great to know what I do not need to rely on one network to earn money. So, I am reiterating the advice that I’ve always given out: don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

However, that was before my PR dropped. I foresee a reduction in my income for December. Why December and not November? This is because for November, I will still be receiving payment for sponsored reviews and text links put up this month. So, if any Advertiser decides to cancel their link placement, the income drop will be reflected in the following month. Having said that, I will not be sitting around to wait for that to happen before I start planning. I will be working on a new strategy which I will not reveal here ;) However, for the time being, I have decided not to sell links on this blog. Let’s see whether my PR will increase in the next update.

So, what are your strategies? Deleting blogrolls and links from blogs whom you exchange link with without informing them? Or give up blogging and go into other businesses like wholesale flowers perhaps?

i get your mean..hope you can bring more new hopes to us :)

in fact, i didn’t sell link (so far, only 1), but my PR also dropped 2 notch! :(

is it possible due to the backlinks? for example, because my pr dropped so affected other people who have linked to me too?

wouldn’t a drop in PR affect opportunities from other advertisers? Most of them require a high ranking PR blog too.

Huisia - I really don’t know about backlinks but I guess Google’s evaluation method has a huge flaw if they are trying to penalize people for selling links.

Mommytochumsy - Yes, it will for networks like PPP who values PR. For Linkworth, they have their own tool to evaluate.

Michelle - Exactly! That’s why I did not even bother to take them down despite the PR drop while others were quick to drop all their blogrolls.
